When you enroll through GridBid for the first time, you’ll need to have your current end date handy so we know when you’d like your new plan to start. If you’re moving into a new building, you can select any day you’d like to start receiving power at the new location. But once you enroll through GridBid once, we’ll keep track of your end dates to simplify the process. If you don’t know when your current plan ends, here’s a few places you can look.
Before we get started, there’s two different ways you’ll see the end date phrased on your bill:
1. First Meter Read On Or After 02/25/2018
Instead of giving an exact end date, some providers will say “First Meter Read On Or After 02/25/2018”. All this means is that when you switch to a new contract, the actual switch will take place on the first meter read on or after 02/25/2018. So, if your meter read for February happens on the 27th, then your plan will end on the 27th, not the 25th.
2. Contract Expiration Date: 02/25/2018
Other providers make it simple and just give a specific contract end date. Easy enough.
In either case, your GridBid Start Date is always the day after the end date stated on your bill. For both of these examples, your Start Date would be 02/26/2018.
The easiest way to find your current end date is on a recent invoice. If you have multiple meters, make sure to double check that all meters end on the same date. If not, be sure to write down the correct end date for each meter. You’ll be able to set individual end dates in the marketplace when you start your search.
Depending on your current provider, your end date could be located in a few different places.
If you can’t find the end date on your bill, you can usually find it in your contract.
Look for terms like “End Date, Contract End Date, and Term End Date”. If you don’t see it, there’s an easy way to figure it out. Simply begin with the date that contract started, add the term length of your plan, and you’ll have your contract end date.
For example, let’s say you signed for a 36-month term that started on 06/15/2015. Here’s how you would figure out your end date: 06/15/2015 + 36 months = 06/14/2018. And your GridBid Start Date would be the next day: 06/15/2018.
· Have multiple meters? Make sure to find & write down the end date for each meter. Most of the time all meters have the same end date, but it’s important to double check.
· Whether your bill shows the exact expiration date or says, “First Meter Read On Or After…”, always use the date shown as your end date.
· Can’t find it on your bill? Check your contract for phrases like “End Date, Contract End Date, & Term End Date”.
· Not seeing it? Start with the day your current contract started & add the term length you signed for.
· The day after your current end date will be the Start Date of your next plan.
